Valentine’s Day is celebrated across the globe by all and this year as it falls on a Monday, with many at work and school, at BotswanaPost we thought it wise to use the day to highlight an important issue that affects all of us. Of cases reported to the police, Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases tip the scale, thus the need to shed light on the issue. In 2021, it is reported that GBV cases were as follows in Botswana ; 273 murder cases, 2033 rape cases, 2111 defilement cases and 970 threat to kill cases. These are only a reflection of reported cases. Though GBV affects men, women, children, and communities alike, we cannot ignore the high percentages indicating that most violence is perpetrated by men against women and children hence our stance at the Post; SAY NO TO GENDER BASED VIOLENCE.
