In our quest to accelerate our digitization strategy of embracing technology-based solutions, we are proud to announce that we have gone live with the Virtual Teller Machine pilot project. The pilot has been rolled out to 5 strategic locations, including Maun, Francistown, Palapye, Gaborone and Seronga. The first of its kind in Botswana - electronic service kiosks termed Virtual Teller Machines (VTM’s) drive the Post’s Universal Postal Obligation (USO) mandate of delivering postal access to everyone nationwide. This including a roleplay in the financial inclusion agenda; the unbanked and underbanked. The first operational VTM was launched in Maun on November 26th, 2021, during the official opening of Maun Post Office. The Minister of Transport and Communication, Honorable Thulagano Merafe Segokgo officiated at the event.

The VTM will be deployed in two phases. Phase I of the solution “Pilot” deployment consists of functionalities that include, Pre-paid Electricity Purchase, Airtime Vouchers and Airtime Pin less Sales, DStv Subscription Payments, Post Box Renewal, Posomoney, Mobile Vend Top Ups and Insurance Premiums (Motshidisi/Mosako) Payments. The second phase will offer card transactions, which will allow for Visa and Master Card transactions, Payments of Social Benefits Cash Allowances and Call Center capabilities.

Amongst the many technological solutions put to market in recent memory, the VTM pilot has been under development since 2018 to catapult BotswanaPost as a customer-centric business. One of these developments has been the recent launch of the Virtual Post Box.

The Virtual Teller Machine affords customers the opportunity to engage with the Post at their convenience (24/7), giving them access to services outside of usual trading hours. This forward-looking innovation equally accommodates the current business climate that dictates less human contact to adhere to Covid – 19 protocols, promoting less post branch visits.

This offering will empower our customers to carry out postal services in a faster, more reliable, and secure manner.
“We are proud to be at the forefront of keeping our customers well serviced using the best technology has to offer” Business Relationship Manager – Commercial and Project Lead Tebogo Disele.
