Last week marked a significant milestone for BotswanaPost as we officially launched the Disaster Recovery Management (DRM) Solar Project Tour at the Sedibeng Post Office in Phitshane-Molopo. The event was officiated by BotswanaPost’s Chief of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Officer, Ms. Tebogo LebotseSebego PCH, alongside the Area Member of Parliament, Honourable Edwin G. Dikoloti, and was attended by community leaders, partners, and members of the media.
The DRM Solar Project, proudly supported by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is more than an infrastructure upgrade- it is a strategic investment in operational resilience, disaster preparedness, and uninterrupted service delivery, especially in underserved and remote communities.
In her remarks, Ms. LebotseSebego emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that the installation of solar power at Sedibeng Post Office is not just a technical advancement, but a commitment to the people who rely most on the Post’s essential services. She reaffirmed that communities such as Phitshane-Molopo, Dikhukhung, Mmakgori, Mosi, and others are deeply reliant on postal services, not just for mail and courier needs, but for access to financial disbursements, Ipelegeng wages, school feeding programme logistics, and vital support for vulnerable groups.
The tour of the facility gave guests a closer look at how the Post’s broader Innovation for Sustainable Growth strategy is coming to life. The tour, led by BotswanaPost SHE Manager- Mr. Chiyapo Machuka, signified how BotswanaPost has begun transforming the way services are delivered, with recent projects like the deployment of electric delivery bikes, the launch of the Post4Health cold-chain logistics fleet for medical deliveries, and the growing network of solar-powered Post Offices enhancing efficiency and environmental responsibility.
In his heartfelt vote of thanks, Honourable Dikoloti described the solar installation as a bold step toward inclusive and sustainable development. He commended BotswanaPost’s leadership and the continued support of UPU and UNDP, stating that Sedibeng Post Office’s transformation is a clear indication that no community is too remote to benefit from modern, reliable infrastructure. He noted how this project contributes meaningfully to Vision 2036, particularly under Pillar 4 which speaks to sustainable environments and climate resilience, and aligns with the goals of Botswana’s Climate Change Policy.
He further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Innovation, the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, BOCRA, and local authorities for creating an enabling environment where such initiatives can thrive. According to the Honourable Area MP, the Sedibeng installation not only empowers local residents but also restores faith in public institutions and the possibility of achieving sustainable development- one project at a time.
This launch was part of a larger rollout of five solar-powered Post Offices strategically positioned in grid-vulnerable areas. Together with ongoing partnerships and sustainability-focused investments, BotswanaPost is building a future-ready, resilient, and inclusive postal network- one that delivers not only mail, but progress.
