BotswanaPost Participates at Ghanzi Show

The annual Ghanzi agricultural show aims to display the best of Botswana’s agricultural sector, and how different government departments, parastatals, private entities and SME’s add to the growth of the agricultural sector. BotswanaPost took part at the weeklong event, which ran from 25th July to 30th July 2022; this year’s event was celebrated under the theme, “Self - Sufficiency and Sustainable Production of Basic Food, Our Reset Agenda”. Speaking at the official opening of the event His Excellency, President of the Republic of Botswana Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi noted that agriculture remains a key Government priority, which is signified by many programmes and initiatives, rolled out over the years and in most recent years to help promote and aid farming throughout the country. The Ghanzi show attracted large participation following a 2-year hiatus, which was due to the Covid – 19 pandemic. In supporting the President’s comments, our contribution as BotswanaPost to the agricultural sector is ongoing with services that include courier, warehousing and freight services at affordable prices and the convenience of transporting goods from farm inputs to heavy plant equipment. As a logistical partner of choice, BotswanaPost also provides financial services, as support to farmers to derive greater value from their investment through financial inclusion. Through BotswanaPost, the farming community has managed to have access to financial and insurance products such as sending and receiving money through products such as PosoMoney thus affording them the space to be competitive. “We pride ourselves in being a key player in the growth of this sector hence our continued efforts to engage with government to relieve it of services that the Post can provide for ease of doing business. For instance, through the Post’s extensive
network, farmers can easily access payment for services they render without needing to travel long distances”. Explained Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Clifford Lekoko when engaging with the Honourable Minister of Entrepreneurship,
Honorable Karabo Gare and Minister of Agriculture Honourable Fidelis Molao. As part of his address, the Minister of Agriculture Honorable, Fidelis Molao emphasized that his ministry remains committed to ensuring food security to Botswana and this would be achieved through various programmes and projects with a view of improving the socio economic situation of the citizens. Hence the importance of shows such as the Ghanzi one that brings all key players together to explore ways to achieve this mandate.

Explaining further, the benefit of the Post’s participation, Communications Manager, Tshepo Happy Maphanyane indicated that their presence facilitates engagements with different stakeholders to expand on the array of products and services on offer. “We use the period to offer support to the BotswanaPost team
based in Ghanzi, conduct meet and greet sessions with both existing and prospective customers and explore possible partnerships while addressing any concerns raised’’.

Another exciting aspect of the show, is hosting learners from various schools in the Ghanzi locality, where they get to learn about Philatelic products and the fascinating stamp production process. It is through the different stamp themes that one gets to appreciate Botswana’s heritage and the value attached to stamps.
Amongst some of the organisations that the team engaged at the show include; Cheetah Association of Botswana, Bomaid, CEDA, MultiChoice, Sandfire and BITC.
