BotswanaPost is excited to participate in the 55th Universal Postal Union International Letter Writing Competition through the Kwala Tempa Posa initiative.
From humble beginnings with traditional mail and mail runners to evolving into a dynamic postal operator offering innovative digital products like DigiPost, Virtual Post Boxes, Virtual Teller Machines, and Posa’it, BotswanaPost has consistently delivered more than just mail-it has delivered innovation, convenience, and connection. Despite advancements with digital products, BotswanaPost remains committed to preserving the timeless tradition of written communication through initiatives such as Kwala Tempa Posa.
To mark this commitment, BotswanaPost invites young writers through their respective schools to participate in the 55th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People at national level.
The letter writing competition is open to students aged 9-15 years under the theme ‘Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world.’
This year’s theme encourages children to reflect on their own relationships and explore how simple acts of communication, like writing a letter, can foster empathy and understanding amidst a rapidly evolving digital environment. Through the support of the Ministry of Basic Education and The Broadcasters Organisation, BotswanaPost aims to ensure the competition gains wider reach of schools across the country- supporting UPU’s mission to promote literacy and communication through letters.
To support learners in crafting their letters, BotswanaPost is encouraging teachers and parents to play an active role in guiding students as submissions are to be routed through schools.
Submission of letters will be done locally where three (3) winning letters will be chosen. BotswanaPost will award prizes to the schools and students producing the top three (3) letters at national level.
“BotswanaPost’s Kwala Tempa Posa initiative recognizes the importance of nurturing young talent and igniting the habit of writing letters, as a way to also introduce them to this long standing tradition and way of communications, whilst they imagine, reflect, and take action for a sustainable future.” - Tebogo LebotseSebego PCH, BotswanaPost Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer.
